The SickKids Central Biobank, part of Clinical Research Operations, is looking for a Research Technologist I. The Biobank supports academic and sponsored trials conducted at SickKids processing, archiving, and distributing clinical samples essential to clinical discovery. We provide biological sample processing for interventional, prospective, and retrospective studies developing cellular therapies, drugs, and other novel agents to improve paediatric clinical care. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager, Clinical Research Facilities and Services, Clinical Research OperationThe Research Technologist I will work closely with other research technologists within SickKids Central Biobank, clinical coordinators, SickKids Clinical Research Centre nurses, SickKids clinical research teams, affiliated institutes, and collaborative networks. Also, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to research into new therapeutic agents, improve standard of care best practices, and obtain direct clinical research experience on diverse trials.
Here¿s What You¿ll Get to Do
- Practice and perform a variety of laboratory procedures including processing, storing, and shipping of study samples conducted at the SickKids Clinical Research Centre, affiliated Research Institute clinics and external sites under the general supervision of senior staff and the facilities manager.
- Process and archive blood, blood derivatives, urine, stool, tumor, and other tissues for clinical research and facilitate distribution to sponsor and investigator central labs and repositories.
- Maintain logs and other relevant databases of studies run through Library Information Systems (LIMS) data entry, REDCap Sample Intake form monitoring and updates, and the organization of documents and data in SharePoint, Excel, and other software tools.
- Read and understand research protocols and sponsor laboratory manuals to conduct work according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Develop and update SOPs and Work Instructions for new studies, laboratory activities and processes.
- Manage supply inventories and maintain equipment calibration records.
- Provide technical assistance to clinical coordinators, nurses, fellows, students, and researchers.

Essentials:
- Applicants with a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience will be considered.
- Candidates must be familiar with aseptic techniques, and experience working in a biological safety cabinet to perform tissue culture and research sample processing activities.
- Experience in handling biological materials, pipetting, general laboratory methods and use of laboratory equipment is required.
- Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.
Assets
- Certification by the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) as a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) is an asset.
