exciting opportunity as an Automation Lead.
This role is based at our Bermondsey Plant in Toronto Ontario and reports to the Plant Manager.
Job Summary
The Automation Lead will be responsible for performing diversified duties within the engineering department, including supplying technical analyses, system analyses, economic studies, and equipment & processes selection scenarios. As an Automation Project Leader at the plastic injection molding plant, this role will be responsible for driving automation initiatives and optimizing production processes. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills while contributing to the continuous improvement of a multifaceted manufacturing environment.
Principal Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of plant engineering projects, including communication with contractors, reviewing timelines and cost summaries, and providing management with up-to-date status reports. Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Generate R.F.Q.s, analyze job costing and material reports and review financial records to ensure project activities are in line with the budget.
- Maintain communication with suppliers and contractors to follow up on the delivery of materials and equipment.
- Source supplies, new process equipment, and materials, and research new processes for continuous improvement.
- Continually audit existing equipment and processes, recommend improvements, and prepare economic analyses to aid management decision-making.
- Coordinate with the maintenance and production managers, for optimum usage of internal resources during the completion of various engineering projects
- Collaborate with plant personnel on machinery, equipment, and tooling improvements to enhance quality, safety, and productivity.
- Assist in the design, implementation, and management of automation systems to improve production efficiency.
- Analyze current production processes and identify areas for optimization and cost reduction.
- Work with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Keep a close eye on the performance of automated systems and resolve any issues that arise.
- Document processes, build project reports, and present findings to collaborators.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and recommend innovative solutions for production challenges.
- Assist with environmental and waste management aspects of the Health, Safety, and Environmental Plan.
- Playing a vital role in the HSE program, conducting the guarding survey and ensuring equipment adheres to accurate standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in all project activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Engineering preferably in Mechanical Engineering or related degree
- 2-4+ years’ experience working within a similar environment
- Excellent knowledge of computers, MS Office, CAD systems, 3-D perception, machining and welding.
- Strong analytical and economic analyses skills.
- Excellent solving and problem-solving skills.
- A basic working knowledge of plastics manufacturing environment/processes is preferred
- Excellent leadership/management, written & verbal communication, interpersonal and project management skills.
- Background in Health, Safety and Environment issues related to plant activities
