YOUR ROLE
As a Junior BI Developer, you will play a crucial role in our Strategy and Operational Excellence team. Initially you will be reporting directly to the Director of Strategy and Operational Excellence and will be responsible for developing reports and dashboards using Power BI and Fabric. You should have a strong understanding of how
to construct effective and efficient measures and calculations using DAX and queries using M code. The ideal candidate will have experience ingesting and transforming data in Fabric using T-SQL and/or Python/PySpark, creating interactive dashboards, integrating data from insurance platforms and ecosystems via APIs, and utilizing
AI-driven analytics to empower actionable insights. A strong grasp of the end-to-end data journey is essential.
YOUR IMPACT
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Develop, maintain, and manage advanced reporting, analytics, dashboards, and other BI solutions using Power BI and Fabric.
- Connect Power BI to various data sources using APIs for seamless data retrieval and optimize integrations to ensure consistent data flow.
- Data Preparation and Modeling: Collect, clean, and prepare data from multiple sources for analysis and reporting and build and maintain efficient data
- models to optimize performance
- Utilize T-SQL for querying and managing data, and Python/PySpark for advanced data processing and automation in Microsoft Fabric environment.
- Explore and implement AI-driven features in Power BI, such as predictive analytics and AI visualizations.
- Conduct data analysis to monitor and improve the performance and accuracy of reports and dashboards.
- Ensure solutions adhere to Canadian data security and privacy regulations, including PIPEDA and provincial rules of Canada.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with the Director of Strategy and Operational Excellence to understand data requirements and translate them into actionable insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure BI solutions align with business needs.
- Communicate complex data insights in a clear and concise manner to stakeholders at all levels.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices in BI and data analytics
- Implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance BI processes and performance
- Analyze data flows and propose areas for improvement.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In your first three months, you will:
- Gain a deep understanding of Oliver’s data analytics requirements.
- Explore Oliver’s platform and ecosystem features, functionalities, and capabilities mapping department processes.
- Support in implementing Oliver’s data strategy.
THIS IS YOU
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in a BI or data analytics role, preferably in a software/SaaS company.
- Proven experience in developing reports and dashboards using Power BI.
- Experience ingesting and transforming data with Microsoft Fabric is highly desirable
Your knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end data journey, from data collection to reporting and analysis.
- Proficiency in Power BI for developing interactive dashboards and reports.
- Experience with DAX and M languages. Knowledge of AI concepts and tools, such as AI, machine learning, or natural language processing (required).
- Familiarity with data ingestion and transformation using Microsoft Fabric (preferred). Knowledge of T-SQL or Python/PySpark (preferred).
- Experience generating and error-checking codes using AI tools (preferred).
- Experience with API connectivity and integrations (preferred).
- Exposure to regulatory frameworks such as PIPEDA or provincial insurance laws in Canada. (preferred)

Certifications and Education
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in either Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related technical field. Microsoft Power BI and/or Fabric
- certifications are a plus but not required once relevant experience can be demonstrated.

YOUR COMPENSATION
At the time of this posting, the estimated annual base salary pay range for this position is $58K-$72K. Individual compensation within this range is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, and education/training. This range reflects the annual base salary only pay and does not encompass our comprehensive total rewards, benefits, and potential bonuses that we proudly offer. ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Workplace Arrangement: REMOTE, with occasional travel and on-site work required on demand. The location in the Metro Vancouver area and its alignment with Pacific Time are considered assets.
