This position also supports Community Cultural Development initiatives including a wide range of activities and events that support local artists and arts organizations. Examples include the Resident Art Groups of the Richmond Arts Centre, Richmond Cultural Centre Upper Rotunda exhibits and arts outreach programs. RAC also produces the annual Children’s Arts Festival and participates in a variety of City-wide cultural events and programs. This position involves working on a team to implement a variety of arts and cultural activities within a busy arts and cultural facility.Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with administration of a variety of arts classes.
- Assist with administration, promotion, and implementation of arts events and community arts outreach activities.
- Leadership role in organizing and supervising volunteers.
- Leadership role in organizing and communication with Resident Art Groups.
- Assist with rental and facility bookings.
- Specific areas of expectation include customer service, administrative support, and first aid implementation.
- Assist with the marketing and promotion of various arts activities.
- Assist in the planning of special events.
- Assist with establishing, developing and implementing arts programs, and in maintaining and evaluating current programs.
- Assist with the research of various trends and opportunities.
- Provide assistance to senior staff as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices, particularly arts and culture-based activities.
- Knowledge of the recreational, social, educational and cultural interests and resources of the area served.
- Knowledge of recruitment and hiring processes.
- Knowledge and skill in using City computer applications such as PeopleSoft (HCM), Xplor, Outlook and Microsoft programs; ability to use REDMS or a similar records management system.
- Knowledge of and experience with delivering arts services using a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, and provide leadership for arts and culture program activities and events.
- Ability to research and implement exceptional arts and culture programs and community events that align with departmental strategies.
- Ability to instruct, schedule and provide direction to part-time staff and volunteers; ability to assess and evaluate staff and provide input into performance assessments.
- Ability to work independently following established methods and as part of a team.
- Ability to effectively communicate written and orally using standard formats and styles.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports related to the work.
- Ability to prepare, monitor and track budgets.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders including staff, community groups, organizations and the general public.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of a Diploma in Community Recreation or related field is preferred. Completion of related coursework equivalent to a minimum of 1 year post-secondary is required, supplemented by a minimum of 1 year and up to and including 2 years of related experience. An equivalent level of education, training and experience may be considered.
- A broad understanding of visual, media, and performing arts is an asset.
- Experience as an artist or in arts management is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence for the Province of British Columbia.
Working Conditions:Duties are performed in an office, program, and event space environment.
