Job Description:
The Behavioral Health Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients experiencing mental health or behavioral challenges on their assigned unit. This includes assessing, planning, and implementing individualized care for patients dealing with a range of psychiatric conditions. The nurse offers both direct and indirect support, ensuring a therapeutic environment that promotes mental wellness and stabilization. This role involves active collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate and effective patient care.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide direct and indirect patient care for individuals with behavioral health and psychiatric conditions, ensuring safety and emotional support in a therapeutic environment.
- Conduct initial and ongoing mental health assessments to develop individualized care plans based on patients' psychological, emotional, and physical needs.
- Administer medications, monitor side effects, and document patient responses to treatment, coordinating closely with the medical team.
- Implement therapeutic interventions, including crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques, to manage and reduce patients' distress and agitation.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers, including psychiatrists, social workers, and therapists, to deliver holistic care.
- Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, treatment options, coping strategies, and community resources.
- Maintain accurate, detailed patient records, documenting progress, behavioral changes, and responses to treatments.
- Delegate tasks and supervise support personnel to ensure quality patient care within the unit.
- Adhere to hospital and nursing department standards, following established protocols to promote patient safety and compliance.
- Provide support during challenging situations, offering compassionate care while promoting a respectful, secure environment for patients and staff.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $51.81-$80.21 per hour
