About the Role:
The First Nations Technology Council is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented accounting professional for the role of Junior Accountant. Reporting directly to the Director, Finance, this position plays a crucial role in managing key financial activities, including maintaining the general ledger, processing accounts payable and receivable, supporting staff with financial processes, and overseeing funder reporting. This position is instrumental in ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in financial operations across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update the accounting software and general ledger (GL), ensuring accurate and timely entry of transactions and monthly roll-ups.
- Manage the processing and approval of accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) transactions, including vendor and consultant payments.
- Perform regular reconciliations of bank accounts and credit card statements.
- Assist staff with understanding and implementing financial processes, ensuring alignment with organizational policies.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all contribution agreements and contracts.
- Work closely with the Director, Finance, and the Leadership Team to oversee funder reporting requirements, create a funder reporting schedule, and ensure timely submission of reports.
- Assist with the flow of transactional processing and approvals.
- Manage and maintain organizational banking information, ensuring accuracy and security.
- Oversee the use and maintenance of accounting software and tools to streamline processes.
- Monitor and manage the finance email inbox, responding promptly to queries and forwarding issues as needed.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational abilities with a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
- Strong problem-solving and prioritization skills.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, MS Office applications (including Excel), and a willingness to learn new tools like Slack, Monday, Dropbox, and Google Docs.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Requirements:
- A university degree or accredited college diploma in a relevant field (e.g. education, public administration) and/or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Three or more years of experience in an administrative or coordination role.
- A proficiency with Quickbooks, MS Office applications, including Excel.
- Interest and ability to learn Slack, Monday, Dropbox, and Google. docs and other online tools.
- Sound knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, traditions and practices in BC
Supervision:
This position reports directly to the Director, Finance.
Salary Range:
$45,000-$55,000
