We are looking for an exceptional Career Services Specialist to join our Career Services department.
Primary Work locations: Computek College Toronto Campus (Kennedy/Eglinton) or Ajax Campus (Westney/401), contingent on business needs.
POSITION SUMMARY
An integral part of the Career Services team supporting Business, Healthcare, and Technology students and graduates, the Career Services Specialist is responsible for partnering with students to secure program related practicum placements and supporting graduates with obtaining employment in their field of study through career development support and employer connections. The Career Services Specialist will liaise regularly with students, graduates, employers, and internal departments including Finance & Compliance, Faculty, Admissions, and Student Success to achieve common goals.
Success in this role is measured through on-time practicum placements, acceptable graduate employment rate, student workshop surveys, and development of meaningful practicum and employment partnerships.
Please note that the candidate must be available to travel to Computek’s Scarborough campus (Kennedy/Eglinton) and our Ajax campus (Westney/401) as required. This role will be on-site Monday-Thursday, with remote work option on Friday (contingent on business needs).
DUTIES
Practicum Placements:
- Monitors and maintains record of upcoming student placements for assigned programs.
- Proactively plans and prepares students for the placement module of the program with the goal of attaining 100% practicum placement rate on time.
- Works closely with Instructors to plan class visits and identify student concerns that may impact practicum placement.
- Identifies and contacts employers to request suitable practicum opportunities for students with the potential of hiring.
- Initiates and establishes placement affiliation agreements with relevant industry partners.
- Prepares and provides placement packages to students and facilitates placement orientation sessions to ensure successful transition to work environment.
- Tracks student placement attendance records
- Maintains compliance with timely placement exit process with student to verify completion of practicum requirements a
- Maintains records of calls, e-mails, and documents in Computek’s electronic system (Campus Login).
- Works closely with the Education department to identify curriculum opportunities and feedback shared by employer partners to improve employer satisfaction with Computek programs.
Job Placements:
- Researches and develops employer partnerships from Business/Healthcare/Technology organizations and identifying job opportunities for program graduates.
- Regularly facilitates career development workshops
- Provides 1:1 career development support
- Develops and maintains career development resources
- Provides on-site support during student and graduate activities and other special events.
- Maintains regular communication with program graduates to assess employment status, job search goals and activities, and offer relevant suggestions and support.
- Collates and shares relevant job opportunities with graduates
- Achieves monthly hire targets, quarterly graduate employment KPIs, and prepares weekly, monthly, and annual reports on required metrics.
- Work with the Career Services team to continually improve services and student/graduate outcomes.
- Maintains record in Computek’s electronic system (Campus Login).
Qualifications, Requirements, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline such as Human Resources, Social Work, and/or Business, or Career Development Practitioner Graduate certificate with 1+ year industry experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A Master’s Degree is considered an asset.
- Membership with Career Professionals of Canada, Career Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE) or similar is an asset.
- Experience working within a post-secondary institution offering support services to students or offering career development services to newcomers is highly desirable.
- Experience in the Healthcare, Business Development, Agency Staffing, and/or Human Resources fields is desirable
- Enjoys working in the community and meeting new people with diverse backgrounds.
