As a Student HR Assistant, you'll be learning and working on one of our HR teams. Depending on your placement, here are some examples of work you could be doing:
- Participate in key HR functions such as recruitment, workforce planning, labour relations, grievance management, learning and development, employee engagement, health, safety, and wellness.
- Help advance diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility initiatives.
- Collaborate with various HR functional areas and partners.
- Respond to inquiries and help clients resolve HR issues.
- Conduct research and analysis to support HR projects.
- Learn to apply legislation, collective agreements, and policies to develop HR solutions.
- Learn to use organizational employee information systems and databases.
You must meet all eligibility criteria by the first day of employment (contracts begin between May and July):
- Student Status: You must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) OR you must have graduated within the past six months (for example, if you graduated in December, you can apply for and start a summer student position up until June of the following year).
- Age: You must be a minimum of 15 years of age. There is no maximum age limit.
- Residency: You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.
- Work Status: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN) for the full duration of your summer employment.

- You are able to contribute ideas and collaborate within a cross-functional team.
- You can use customer service skills to answer questions and share information with clients.
- You can write effectively and prepare different documents (ex. reports, presentations, emails).
- You have knowledge of HR gained from school, work, volunteer, or other activities.
- You can use word processing and spreadsheet software, databases, email, and the internet.
- You can use discretion and sensitivity when working with confidential information.
- You are able to conduct research and analysis to support projects, create reports, and make recommendations.
- You can work on your own as well as part of a team.
- You can prioritize work and meet deadlines.
