Position Summary: The Program Facilitator supports programming at the JCC, specifically, this position facilitates, “Community Kitchen,” a Inclusion program in which adults with diverse needs and abilities learn how to cook a variety of dishes (hands-on), from Jewish traditional food to multicultural exploration, and come together to enjoy their meal together in a relaxed and fun environment. The role includes planning the recipes, ordering (and potentially picking up ingredients), facilitating a two-hour session with participants, prepping and cleaning the kitchen area, and liaising with the Program Coordinator responsible for the Inclusion portfolio.
Hours: 4 hours per week typically Mondays from 3:00pm -7:00pm (program runs 4:30pm-6:30pm)
Reports to: Program Coordinator, Inclusion
Compensation: $20-24 per hour depending on experience.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
The Program Facilitator (Community Kitchen) leads the weekly community kitchen program. This includes:
- Planning accessible recipes
- Ordering and picking up groceries
- Prepping the Program Kitchen
- Facilitating the Program with participants
- Ensuring clean up of the program kitchen
- Communicating with the Program Coordinator, Inclusion
- Communicating with program participants and/or their families/guardians as needed.
Qualifications:
- BA., certification and/or equivalent experience working with individuals with special needs.
- Familiarity with the Jewish community and cultural practices.
- Knowledge and experience facilitating group cooking classes.
- Experience working with persons with disabilities, knowledge of inclusive practices, and familiarity with the local community are assets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Successful candidate must clear a Criminal Record Check for working with children and vulnerable adults.
- Food Safe Level 2 (will be required).
