The mission of the SFU Bookstore Spirit Shop is to enhance the living and learning environment of the University community by providing goods and services in engaging places. SFU Bookstore Spirit Shop supports faculty and student learning at Simon Fraser University by ensuring availability and procurement of more than 5,500 faculty requisitioned textbook titles each year. Our ongoing objective is to supply required course materials to SFU students at the lowest possible price, and on their digital device of choice as distribution models evolve. SFU Spirit Shop promotes the University image as well as fosters collegial spirit through the marketing of SFU branded clothing, supplies, gifts and memorabilia. SFU Bookstore Spirit Shop is a self-funded operation that is committed, at all levels, to exemplary customer service quality and innovation. About The Role
Performs standard cashiering services by operating an electronic cash register and credit/debit card terminal to process customer transactions; logging on/off cash registers and computing systems; counting and creating floats; and checking, sorting, and collecting receipts for deposit. Provides highly visible and pro-active customer service to internal and external customers by acknowledging, greeting, and welcoming customers; encouraging customer purchases; and directing the flow of customers into, within, and out of the Bookstore. Performs retail maintenance and clerical functions in the Course Book, General Retail, Stationery, and Clothing areas of the Bookstore. Performs other related duties consistent with position title and classification.
Do you have retail experience and enjoy customer service? SFU Bookstore Spirit Shop invites applications for part-time positions providing excellent cashier and retail customer service for our Burnaby and Surrey pop-up locations. We encourage SFU students to apply for temporary part-time (less than 35 hours/week) positions as priority is given to qualified SFU students who are registered in credit courses in the semester of employment.
Qualifications
High school graduation. 1 year of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Ability to operate an electronic cash register with a high degree of accuracy and satisfactorily complete a cashier training program.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to deal with frequent interruptions and multi-task.
- Ability to accurately count cash, check stock on hand, and legibly record information.

Additional Information
The assignment start/end dates are: January 2, 2025 to January 24, 2025.
Priority will be given to qualified registered SFU students who must submit a Spring 2025 class schedule with their application. This is a part-time position working 3 to 7 hours biweekly. Days/hours of work are Monday to Saturday between the hours of 8:30am to 6:30pm. Must be available for three or more shifts per week. Potential for future assignments if successful. There are 2 positions available.
