What You’ll Do
The Consumer Brands Division within Canadian Tire is providing Canadians with unprecedented innovation, value and excitement through great brands such as Woods, Paderno and CANVAS, which offer high-quality products and modern style and design elements, and best-in-class Canadian Tire marketing campaigns. The Packaging Consultant will manage Own Brand Packaging projects from inception to completion. Strong prioritization and organization skills, providing copy and photography direction, and project management are key responsibilities of the Packaging Consultant, who is responsible for managing owned brand packaging projects at Canadian Tire. Reporting to the Manager, Packaging Optimization, the Packaging Consultant will steer retail packaging projects from inception to completion, will manage project assets with internal and external teams, and will independently identify and resolve issues as they arise.
In This Role, You'll
- Manage the packaging development and approval process from the project briefing meeting, through photography and production artwork development phases, to pre-press file release.
- Track all project deliverables against prescribed timelines and follow up with cross-functional teams or third parties on their inputs.
- Research competitive products and develop expertise in product categories, including their regulations, to ensure packaging content is compelling, effective, accurate and “best in class”.
- Format marketing content, including copy and photography, to meet packaging brand standards and provide clear art direction to ensure accurate layout executions.
- Understand all Canadian packaging & product regulations, including but not limited to the packaging and labeling act, CCCR, Charter of the French Language, CT’s Acceptance Criteria.
- Understand print process and its potential impact on brand executions; work with art partner to identify concerns and communicate potential solutions to internal teams.
- Understand and apply retail owned brand & marketing strategies to packaging executions.
What You Bring
- A self-starter who is able to multi-task; adapt to changing priorities; and work within tight deadlines.
- Solid project management skills – with proven experience coordinating teams or projects.
- Experience in copywriting – marketing, technical or creative content development.
- Knowledge of retail packaging, brand execution and production art rules and best practices.
- Category knowledge or interest in cooking, style and home packaging.
- Familiarity with the packaging development process and components.
- Well-developed problem-solving, planning, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and oral/written communication skills.
- Advanced skill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite with aptitude for learning, or experience in using a workflow software.
- Technical knowledge of dielines, pre-press and print is an asset.
- Graphic design and print production experience considered an asset.
- Post-secondary Education in marketing, advertising or journalism is preferred.
