Carius Home Care –PSW Job Description
A Personal Support Worker who assists clients with their physical support needs which they themselves cannot otherwise complete in a safe and timely manner. As per Carius Home Care Services policies and procedures. Carius Home Care staff will provide non-medical, personal, physical and lifestyle assistance as required and directed by each individual client and unique care plan. Companion care will also include engaging the client in various activities that are suitable for the client as well as promoting mental health and wellness. Care will be provided at clients' homes, retirement residences and supportive housing.

JOB DUTIES
- Assist clients with personal hygiene and all activities of daily living
- Provide attendant care services including transferring, lifting, bathing, assistance eating, and personal care to clients
- Maintain a professional and respectful manner at all times in the performance of duties, which includes housekeeping, nurturing assistance, assistance with pet care, etc
- Protect and promote the welfare, dignity and individual rights of clients at all times
- Adhere to the goals, policies, vision and mission of Carius Home Care Services, while performing the duties of an PSW
- Ensure safe work practices are being followed at all times including infection prevention and control (IPAC) protocols and the use of protective personal equipment (PPE)
- Comply with organizational health and safety policies and protocols including reporting health and safety concerns to management
- Ensure clients’ surroundings and personal effects are clean, tidy and serviceable
- Complete and submit documentation as required (i.e. incident reports, accident reports) in a timely manner
- Assist clients in and out of lifts and wheelchairs
- Transfer clients on and off beds, toilets, chairs, etc
- Assist in orienting new staff with clients’ service needs and office procedures
- Perform other duties related to the care plan of the client
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate of an accredited school for Personal Support Worker (PSW) and valid PSW certification is required from a Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities or the Ministry of Education approved program
- Physically capable of performing assigned duties including but not limited to: providing personal care, transferring clients in a safe manner, and light housekeeping
- Availability to work scheduled shifts within a 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week operation
- Ability to listen attentively and to take directions from clients to fulfill Carius mission and values
- Demonstrates teamwork and ability to work well with others in a team (based on client needs)
- Ability to adapt to stressful situations and unexpected changes to a client's schedules while remaining calm and professional
- Strong morals and ethics along with a commitment to client and staff privacy; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise discretion
- Culturally sensitive with ability to work effectively with diverse populations and interact with others in a respectful manner
- Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism required to deliver personal and physical support services in a respectful and attentive manner
- Good verbal, written and listening communication skills are required to seek clarification and follow directions from clients ensuring tasks are performed with accuracy
- High degree of resourcefulness, initiative and problem-solving skills required to anticipate, identify and overcome problems and constraints
- Ability to plan and organize work effectively to ensure its completion within the allotted booking times
- Knowledge of and ability in transferring, lifting and performing other Personal Support Worker duties
- Must be comfortable and capable of using technology including email, scheduling systems (clock in/clock-out, online timesheets) and employee self-service platforms
- Current CPR and First-Aid certification
- Provide clear Vulnerable Sector Report
- Previous experience working with seniors and individuals with various disabilities
WORK CONDITIONS
- Required to work every second weekend and some statutory holidays including either Christmas week or New Year’s week as determined by Carius Home Care
- Physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, bending, crouching, kneeling, lifting, transferring and supporting clients
- Travel may be required when reassigned/redirected to other client homes or facilities (travel between clients will be compensated)
- Working in clients' homes/Retirement communities and long-term care residences

Pay: $22.00-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 35 per week
