The School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus, invites applications for a 0.60 part-time, non-tenure track Lecturer position. Applicants should have expertise in teaching and student support, and the ability to teach Undergraduate Nursing Electives Courses (https://nursing.ubc.ca/undergraduate/nurs-elective-courses). This Lecturer role also incorporates duties as a Student Career and Academic Advisor (SCAA) for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The initial appointment will be for a one-year term with the possibility of reappointment, subject to demonstrated excellence in teaching, advising, and funding availability.
The successful candidate will be involved in teaching, course planning, and lecturing for select Undergraduate Nursing Elective courses. In addition, the Student Career and Academic Advisor role includes overseeing the development, coordination, and delivery of the BSN Learning Pathways (LPs) as part of a province-wide initiative to improve transition supports for new nurses moving into practice, as well as providing career and academic advising to BSN students throughout their program. The incumbent will support students in academic development, consult on academic concession and progression, and assist those students requiring additional support to successfully advance in the BSN program, connecting them with the appropriate university resources.
UBC’s School of Nursing was the first in Canada to offer a university nursing degree and has a proud tradition of excellence in undergraduate and graduate nursing education. We offer a range of innovative programs, including an accelerated, advanced-standing baccalaureate nursing degree, Master’s of Science in Nursing, and PhD programs. The BSN is a 20-month, accelerated program at UBC’s Vancouver campus, with a focus on developing critical skills in nursing practice.
The SCAA and learning pathway lead aspects of the role requires close coordination with Health Authorities and other institutions to ensure a successful transition of students into RN practice through intentional, scaffolded learning experiences. The SCAA will also work with centralized resources such as UBC’s Centre for Accessibility (CFA) and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response (SVPRO) Office, among others.
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree and an active registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Applicants with a Master’s degree in nursing preferred. Experience teaching students in university settings and/or providing direct clinical supervision is required. Specific expertise in mental health nursing and experience working in BC Health Authority contexts are preferred. Familiarity with the UBC School of Nursing BSN curriculum is desirable.
The salary will be commensurate with educational preparation and experience, with an expected range of $60,000 to $75,000 annually at 0.60 FTE. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications, including a cover letter, CV, teaching statement, EDI statement describing how your teaching and/or practice addresses historical conditions of underrepresentation, discrimination, or other forms of inequity and/or promoted equity, diversity, and inclusion, and contact information for three references, must be submitted online at: https://ubc.wd10.myworkdayjobs.com/ubcfacultyjobs.
