Fazakas Gallery is seeking to fill the position of Gallery Assistant / Marketing Coordinator. This is an excellent position for someone who is personable, organized, flexible, and seeking experience in the commercial arts sector. Indigenous candidates are encouraged to apply.
The Marketing Coordinator supports the gallery with day-to-day operations, photo documentation of artwork, inventory and website management, managing social media platforms, organizing the exhibition calendar, liaising with artists, and creating materials to promote gallery programming.
This is an in-person role with approximately 18-24 hours per week to start. Hours are 11 am - 5 pm between Tuesday and Saturday. Must be able to work Saturdays
Responsibilities:
Website / Social Media Management
- Promote on gallery’s social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook)
- Set goals, track and analyze web traffic metrics, suggest solutions to boost web presence
- Maintain a social media planning calendar, in consultation with Gallery Director, to schedule posts and manage digital engagement on Instagram
- Utilize hashtags, handles, and representations of Fazakas Gallery to boost visibility of marketing content
- Produce monthly gallery newsletters and update contacts in gallery database
- Respond to client comments and DMs
- Keep website up-to-date and maintained
Technical / Photography
- Photo documentation of artworks and installation shots, photo editing
- Design visual marketing assets for gallery programming (art fairs, exhibitions, and events)
- Maintain image files on Google Drive and Artlogic
- Handle image related requests (providing photo files to artists, clients, curators, etc.)
- Catalog incoming artworks and update inventory database
Administration / Sales
- Generate and maintain new marketing initiatives online and in person
- Visitor engagement within exhibition spaces
- Monitor the gallery email and respond to inquiries or alert the appropriate staff members
- Provide price lists and sales packages for clients and curators
- Create invoices and process payments
- Assist the Director with assignments and special projects
- Check office supplies and order as needed
- General gallery upkeep (sweeping, tidying, checking voicemail, etc.)
Exhibitions / Operations
- Create logistical timelines for the preparation of gallery exhibitions and art fairs
- Keep track of project deliverables, deadlines, and create task checklists
- Liaise with artists, galleries, and institutions
- Stay up to date on gallery artists (i.e. award nominations, artist talks/presentations, upcoming exhibitions and projects) and update gallery files accordingly
Primary Qualifications:
- Passionate about contemporary and Indigenous arts
- Minimum 2 years of marketing and/or communications experience, preferably within the arts and culture sector
- Great interpersonal skills, comfortable talking with clients and artists
- Excellent time, organizational, and project management skills
- Highly self motivated with a demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, within a team environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and to prioritize tasks
- Social media management experience using Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter
- Ability to create copywriting and captioning for social media, newsletter, and website
- Strong English written and spoken language communication skills for day-to-day correspondence
- Knowledge of contemporary art discourse and terminology;
Secondary Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Canadian Indigenous art
- Professional experience working in commercial galleries
- Sales and customer service experience
- Experience with Google Adwords, Google Analytics is an asset
