Job Description
Reporting to the Manager of Site Reliability Engineering – Platforms and Data, the Specialist will be responsible for supporting various application systems, databases, automated workflow processes, and integrations used by OMERS Investments and other business teams. The role involves participating in business and technology initiatives and projects related to application upgrades, database administration, data integration, as well as supporting automated workflows and data pipelines. Excellent client service, interaction, and communication skills, along with the ability to perform in a high-paced, deadline-driven environment, are essential.
Job Details
- Perform database administration duties across database servers dedicated to investment systems, including MS SQL Server, Azure SQL Server, and Oracle instances.
- Install and configure various investment systems (Calypso, Eagle Pace, CRD, Frontier), and provide direct support, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Develop scripts and automations for data retrieval from third-party vendors and integration between systems.
- Analyze existing programmatic solutions and workflows to identify opportunities for automation, improvement, and optimization.
- Maintain and administer application and architecture security standards for investment applications.
- Manage and support the overnight investment process, including all data flow solutions and enterprise scheduling.
- Manage all problem and enterprise change management processes, representing investment requirements and maintaining the change management system in a timely manner.
- Work cross-functionally with both technical and business teams to facilitate the roll-out and ongoing support of major infrastructure and solution enhancements for investment users.
- Demonstrate the ability to multitask and manage projects with aggressive timelines.
- Exhibit high personal and ethical standards with the ability to collaborate across the organization.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and external vendors, with a specific focus on managing OMERS Capital Markets production environment.
- Build and maintain documentation for all supported technology platforms and applications.
- Continuously broaden knowledge, learn new things, and adapt to a multifaceted and evolving technical and business investment environment.
PLEASE NOTE: This role may require some work to be performed outside regular business hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends for troubleshooting and implementation purposes.
To Succeed In This Role
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Must have).
- 2+ years of relevant experience in a position related to database administration, scripting, and maintaining business systems, preferably in the investment industry.
- Experience with ETL tools like SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Informatica, or other custom-built ETL solutions
- Solid grasp of database technologies with an emphasis on SQL Server and Oracle. DBA knowledge of SQL Server or Oracle, or both, is a strong plus.
- Experience with leading investment applications such as Eagle, Calypso, Charles River, Frontier, and SimCorp is nice to have.
- Experience with the Azure cloud platform and/or Snowflake is nice to have.
- Familiarity with investment industry terminology.
- Knowledge of programming principles and comfort with using common development platforms and languages (PowerShell, Python, VB, Java).
- Familiarity with modern cloud-based technologies such as Microsoft Workplace, analytical tools, and platforms (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Azure, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office products.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve technical issues and recommend solutions.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent team player with interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to support users of varying levels of technology expertise.
- Organizational skills to prioritize work and track the status of multiple activities.
