The Family Navigation Project (FNP) at Sunnybrook is a non-profit program designed to provide expert navigation of the mental health and addiction service system for youth and their families residing in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). FNP is a free service offered through phone and email that uses a combination of clinical and lived experience to support youth and their families on their care pathway. We are currently seeking a passionate and dynamic Temporary Full Time Community Engagement Coordinator that will develop and implement effective engagement strategies to help FNP reach more youth and families from equity-deserving communities (EDCs). This position is being made available through philanthropic funding and is focused on addressing the gaps in access for mental health and addictions care. This role will focus on developing and expanding in-person and virtual outreach initiatives to EDCs, to ensure navigation services that FNP provides is better known, trusted, and used. This position reports to the Project Manager, Community Engagement.
Community Outreach
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Work collaboratively with team members to assess community needs and build rapport with community stakeholders, including residents, local community based organizations, and other agencies working to support youth from EDCs in the GTA.
- Support community engagement strategies that align with FNP’s mission and goals focused on expanding services to underserved communities.
- Organize and facilitate community events, presentations, and meetings to build awareness of FNP and promote services within the GTA.
- Coordinate all engagement logistics including event scheduling, resourcing and staffing, material development and tracking, and more.
- Ensure and monitor the effectiveness of outreach programs and initiatives and provide feedback/recommendations.
Promotions
- Support the implementation of innovative promotional strategies to bolster community outreach and engagement efforts.
- Create and distribute promotional materials to raise awareness of FNP and its initiatives with a focus on developing materials that will foster connections with EDCs.
- Collaborate with the Sunnybrook Strategic Communications team to ensure consistent messaging and branding in alignment with hospital guidelines.
- Work to enhance FNP presence and client engagement by creating compelling messaging, developing and coordinating marketing campaigns, and utilizing various communication channels to maximize reach and impact.
- Track engagement metrics and adjust marketing strategies based on performance data.
Other duties may include those needed for the ongoing growth, development and execution of the FNP program.
Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (i.e. Communications, Marketing, Social Work, or other);
- Minimum 2 years’ post-graduate experience working in community outreach/engagement, event coordination, etc.
- Previous experience in working meaningfully with equity-deserving communities e.g., Black, Indigenous and people of colour, 2SLGBTQI+, communities living in poverty, people with disabilities etc., and those living at various intersections across these and other groups, are essential to this role.
- Strong understanding of systemic barriers members from equity-deserving communities may face along with cultural sensitivity, competence and the ability to understand and connect with diverse populations.
- Ability to proficiently organize and implement engagement activities within an allocated budget.
- Strong ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and engage in collaborative working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly self-directed with excellent organizational and time management skills.
