Detailed Overview
Assists the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians by measuring, packaging, compounding and distributing various drugs and medication; maintains related records, stock levels and performs various clerical duties, as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Counts or measures and fills medication containers or unit dose packages; compounds medications such as lotions, ointments and creams for inspection; distributes checked and/or verified medications to patient care units, as required or directed.
- Pre-packages oral, liquid, topical and mini-bag with integrated vial assembly medications into unit-of-use format and maintains related records.
- Delivers ward supplies and other stock requirements; maintains inventory and wardstock levels; fills wardstock and narcotic requisitions; distributes medications and maintains relevant inventory, wardstock and inventory records.
- Identifies beyond use dated drugs to be returned and/or destroyed by checking stock for expiry dates.
- Maintains department work areas by ensuring tidiness and order; stocks pharmaceuticals, labels, containers and glassware in accordance with established procedures and standards.
- Performs clerical duties such as typing, answering the phone, filing and maintaining records of drug and medication use and costs.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Grade 12, graduation from a recognized Pharmacy Assistant course, plus one (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
