Cook – Short Stay Crisis Beds (Part-Time Permanent)
The Role and Opportunity
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) – Toronto is seeking a part-time Cook for our Short Stay Crisis Beds Program. In this role, the Cook will be responsible for preparing meals for residents within the program. The Short Stay Crisis Beds Program provides 24-hour on-site residential support and short-term case management services to individuals living with mental illness who are involved in the criminal justice system.
Hourly Range: $26.19 - $28.62 + 4% in lieu of vacation
Work Location: 940 Wilson Avenue, North York
Work Hours: Saturdays, from 8:00am to 4:00pm

Responsibilities
- Prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in ovens, grills, and a variety of other kitchen equipment
- Familiar with cooking techniques for special dietary needs such as no nuts, dairy or gluten free
- Able to cook with or without recipes
- Cook for 24+ people
- Maintain a sanitary workstation and refrigeration equipment
- Creates a grocery list of needed food items
Experience & Education Required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with food preparation and cooking
- Experience working in not-for-profit sector preferable with a strong interest in health care or related field
- Culinary training an asset
- Safe Food Handling Certificate required
- Effectively work in a team environment as well as independently
- Sensitivity towards individuals with mental illness and substance abuse;
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
- Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
