About The Role
The primary responsibility of the Business Analyst, Finance, will be to address the business needs of the current ERP system for SOCAN and its companies. This role would be the key liaison between the Finance department and other departments to ensure the financial and operational functionality and integrity of the system. This includes gaining in-depth knowledge of the business and financial accounting processes. This provides the foundation for actively participating in the on-going management/enhancements of the ERP system and making improvements that address the challenges, concerns, and business strategies.
Additionally, the role will interact with other Business Analysts, Project Managers, Business Process Analysts and Solution Architects on the definition and execution of small and large initiatives. The Business Analyst, Finance, will be responsible for defining Finance department project requests which would flow into a portfolio planning process. They would also be responsible for a business quality assurance function.
The Business Analyst, Finance, will be involved in the more complex processes and projects. The role will be responsible for providing cost/benefit analysis and metrics to determine if projects are delivering the expected value, and in the cases where they are not, identifying the root cause and areas for improvement in the future.
What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities
Analysis
- Working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define clear business requirements for initiatives.
- Develop Finance detailed use cases and test scenarios/cases.
- Lead User Acceptance Testing in partnership with Project Managers and Solution Architects.
- Collaborate with other Business Analysts and User Groups across the organization as part of process and quality control.
- Support Finance Department in execution of operational audit requirements.
- Develop current and future state process maps for Finance- to include improved processes by gathering input from other Business Analysts, Finance team members and other departmental SMEs.
- Contribute to corporate end-to-end process maps to serve the entire organization.
- Conduct gap analysis between existing and future-state business processes for Finance, to identify future process roles and opportunities for improvement and subsequently develop action plans based on this information.
- Working with other Business Analysts, SMEs, and Management, ensure that proper business process metrics are defined, implemented, and monitored according to success criteria.
End User Training
- Analyzes impact of changes on Finance users and develops training/change management requirements.
- Develops a training strategy and materials required for the training.
- Delivers training to the business users per training plan.
- Prepare new procedures and user guides to be used by the Finance business team.
Post-Implementation Project Support
- Provide the required support to help Finance staff adjust to changes introduced by new solutions.
- Encourage knowledge sharing to support learning and to create further efficiencies in performing tasks.
- Provide ongoing post-implementation support as required to the Finance department.
- Monitor the performance of ongoing business processes and highlight any issues/incidents and enhancements as appropriate.
What You Will Bring / Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years working experience as a Business Analyst focusing on implementing an ERP system with the understanding of financial functionality for operational processes.
- Working towards or has a Certified Business Analysis Professional™ (CBAP®) through International Institute of Business Analysts (IIBA) or Certification of Competency in Business Analysis™ (CCBA®) through IIBA would be an asset.
- A strong background in general accounting concepts and/or working towards/has a CPA designation would be an asset.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Management Visio)
- Must be proficient in financial accounting systems for an ERP system. EPICOR would be an asset.
- Familiarity with technology solutions of sufficient breadth to recognize opportunities for its use. This would include databases and examples include MicroStrategy.
- Exposure to business application systems, web portals & mobile apps, data warehousing & reporting, system integration and project management.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated competency in interacting with and presenting to all levels of audience including staff, management, executives, and vendors.
- Demonstrated leadership and training facilitation experience.
- Demonstrated problem solving, self-management and organizational skills.
- Familiar with project management discipline and protocols.
- Technical background of sufficient depth and width to recognize opportunities for effective IT exploitation.
