ABOUT US
Kennedy House (KH) is a not-for-profit organization with a long-standing dedication to providing exceptional personalized care for youth in the Greater Toronto Area for over 50 years. KH started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and currently operates several residential and community-based programs, for marginalized and at-risk youth, including:
- One residential program for adolescents in care;
- Three residential programs for youth and young adults living with developmental disabilities;
- A Day Treatment school program for youth struggling in the typical school setting;
- Kennedy House Youth Centre, a secure custody facility for male youth experiencing conflict with the law;
- Bailiff services to safely and securely transport youth experiencing conflict with the law;
- Kennedy House After School Program for children aged 4-13 in underserved communities throughout Scarborough; and
- Kennedy House Youth Shelter, for youth aged 16-24 experiencing homelessness.
KH works with youth to enable them to grow as individuals and contribute as members of the community. This is achieved by providing customized support and building trusting relationships.

The Program Facilitator will be responsible for program development and implementation of newly developed programs.

Key Responsibilities
1.Creates and implements educational, recreational and social programming in a shelter setting
2. Completes needs assessments of all new intakes to assess goals, future plans and areas of improvement in order to create client-focused and goal oriented programs that are fun and engaging, as well as beneficial
3. Creates a welcoming, inclusive and stigma/bias-free environment for all participants
4. Actively recruits and motivates residents to attend programming
5. Leads resident meeting to discuss issues, concerns, ideas for programming and menus and follows up
6. Attends group outings
7. Creates monthly program calendar indicating time and date for each event/program
8. Provides and submits daily feedback on each program facilitated and provides suggestions to ways we can improve program to my direct supervisor and shelter management
9. Outreaches to external facilitators to provide specialized programming (Dog therapy, Yoga Instructors, spoken word artists etc.)
10. Performs regular shelter worker duties during hours when program is not in session (supervision of meal times, conflict resolution, bedroom checks, counselling etc.)
11. Completes all necessary documentation for management to review (incident reports, attendance, shift summary etc.)
12. Attends all mandatory meetings (shift change, admin meeting, client meeting, house meetings etc.)
Qualifications:
- Post secondary education or an acceptable combination of education and experience from a Career Development Certificate/Diploma Program.
- Previous experience in a program facilitation.
- Knowledge of principles and practices related to youth development and educational issues.
- Must have strong and polished interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Creative, strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Must be highly organized and able to work well with others.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer application and database management.
- Event planning; Curriculum planning and implementation.
- Flexible; possessing the ability to wear different, “hats” on short notice.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License.
- Clear Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Search must be maintained.
- Creative problem solving and a high level of independent action and decision making skills .
- Excellent writing skills, including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Broad awareness of other cultures, values, identities and perspectives with a demonstrated ability and interest in working with and for diverse populations

Work Conditions
