Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a part-time, Estates Paralegal. In this role, you will assist clients with all matters of estate administration, including applications for estate grants and post grant-administration of estates. You will work closely with our lead paralegal in this group and our estate lawyers, and will have direct contact with estate representatives, accountants, and other professionals who may be involved in the administration of the estate. This position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, tracking deadlines, and the ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.
Work Hours
This is a part time position. Starting at 17hrs/ week with the possibility of growing to full time as the practice increases.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and filing of probate and administration documents.
- Manage and organize estate files, including correspondence, court documents, and financial records.
- Prepare estate grant application documents, interim and final estate representative accounts, releases, notices to creditors, and correspondence with clients.
- Communicate with various external bodies including beneficiaries, financial institutions, governmental authorities, Public Guardian and Trustee , realtors, etc.
- Conduct searches including corporate, land title and personal property registry.
- Liaise internally with lawyers and staff on various matters.
- Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure they are informed and comfortable throughout the estate administration process.
- Perform other duties as required.
As you get to know the team and learn its practices and forms, we would encourage you to work on site for the first few months. Most members of the department work one day remotely.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 1 year's experience (ideally 2-3 years) of solid estate paralegal experience, along with a bachelor’s degree and / or a paralegal certificate or equivalent.
- Ability to independently draft applications for estate grant applications, preferably including applications involving s58 of the WESA, and estate distribution packages.
- Knowledge of Wills, Estates & Succession Act.
- Ability to manage all aspects of estate administration and distribution and associated processes.
- Excellent writing skills, word processing, and proofreading.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Ability to take initiative and use good judgement.
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients, lawyers, and staff.
Salary Range:
The salary range for the role represents the Firm's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications.
