We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Project Accountant/Coordinator on a full time permanent basis based out of our Burnaby office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Project Accountant will assist in the daily, monthly, and year-end operations of the accounting department.
- The project accountant will track and categorize costs associated with environmental initiatives, such as pollution control, waste management, and habitat restoration. This will allow us to allocate resources more effectively to areas that directly impact the environment.
- Effectively communicates with Project Managers and Client Managers, regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services-related to billing and project accounting.
- Manage and oversee the invoicing process for federal government contracts, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to develop, monitor, and maintain project budgets. Provide regular updates on budget status and identify any potential issues or variances.
- Assist the Project Manager in the review and approval of timesheets, projects expenses, and consultant invoices.
- Ensure daily billing activities are completed accurately and timely (process credit memos and prepare account statements for customers.
- Understand financial terms in client contracts billing process and revenue recognition.
- Set up and activating projects in ERP system by entering billing terms, creating new clients, contacts.
- Process and review vendor invoices for accuracy and proper coding. Assist in the preparation of payment runs, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist internal staff with preparing expense reports in specific format for federal government projects.
- The project accountant will work to integrate environmental goals into financial planning, ensuring that all projects and operations are financially supported in a way that prioritizes sustainability.
Basic Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in business with a specialization in accounting or finance.
- Working towards CPA designation is considered an asset.
- 2+ years in an accounting role performing full cycle accounting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Problem solver, process-oriented and logical
- Excellent time and priority management skills, and a proven history of timely delivery against articulated timelines and schedules
- Demonstrated aptitude and developed skills in any ERP system, Intermediate MS Excel, Word and Outlook and a proven aptitude for learning new software.
- Well developed verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
