Compensation Range

Job Summary
Registered Dietician for research study within the Gastroenterology division at BC Children’s Hospital.
Organizational Status
This position reports to the Principal Investigators (PIs).
Work Performed
The dietician will work in collaboration with the PIs and other research team members on a project examining the efficacy and gut microbiome modulating capacity of a blended whole food exclusive enteral nutrition diet in pediatric Crohn’s disease. This position is part-time (4 hours/week). Tasks and responsibilities include:
- Contributing to the development of the whole food blended diet used for the intervention/study arm
- Assisting with writing grant applications, research proposals and ethics submissions
- Performing literature searches
- Contributing to the creation of a quality improvement survey for Crohn patients
- Contributing to the recruitment of participants for home taste testing of whole food blended diet and quality improvement survey
- Recruiting study participants
- Educating study participants and their families on the nutritional therapy intervention
- Attending weekly Zoom meetings with research team and scheduled clinical research meetings
- Conducting in-person and virtual visits with study participants at specified weeks of the intervention (obtaining anthropometric measures, calculating nutritional requirements, evaluating food diaries and analyzing intakes using ESHA food processing software, providing clinical support, etc.)
- Selecting appropriate validated dietary assessment methods to evaluate compliance to the liquid diet
- Contributing to writing pilot research paper
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Required to conduct research activities in an ethical manner, working independently with minimal instruction and supervision. Strict confidentiality of all study participants must be adhered too. All activities involving participants are accountable to the Principal Investigator’s governing professional organization.
Supervision Received
The Research Dietitian works under minimal supervision/direction and exercises a high degree of clinical judgment and autonomy. The incumbent is expected to exercise a considerable amount of judgment and initiative in duties and responsibilities.
Supervision Given
May provide work direction to research staff as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current full registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC).
- Good Clinical Practice and TCPS2 Core certification (or willingness to complete training if not already obtained)
- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.
