Sinai Health is looking for a Privacy and Information Access Specialist who is aligned with our purpose to join our Privacy Office.
Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Privacy and Information Access, the Specialist will play a key role in supporting the Privacy Office by leading and facilitating activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of Sinai Health’s privacy programs.
In This Role, You Will
- Act as the Privacy Office’s first point of contact for privacy inquires, complaints and concerns from internal and external stakeholders, including members of the public
- Process and manage patient privacy requests, including corrections, consent directives, and consent override investigations
- Develop and amend policies and guidelines related to privacy matters
- Conduct privacy incident investigations
- Develop and manage internal privacy training, and promote privacy awareness across the organization
- Support the development of projects and other initiatives by conducting privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and providing guidance/recommendations to enhance privacy
- Assist in processing Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
- Perform regular privacy audits
- Keep abreast of changing requirements and trends in privacy and information access
Job Requirements
Mandatory
- Successful completion of an Undergraduate Degree in a related health discipline from an accredited educational institution or equivalent work experience
- A minimum of 1-3 years of recent and relevant experience in privacy, preferably in a hospital environment
Preferred
- Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C) Designation is considered an asset
- Experience with Cerner and/or Meditech
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and ability to apply applicable law and legal/regulatory decisions and Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) guidelines to real world situations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Professional
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with proven sensitivity, patience, discretion, tact and good judgment when dealing with patients, families, visitors and staff members
- Excellent presentation and training skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to respond to numerous demands, prioritize work activities accordingly, and manage expectations of key stakeholders
