Roles & Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping & Data Entry:
- Record and code all financial transactions accurately to the appropriate accounts in QuickBooks Online.
- Maintain the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy of all transaction postings.
- Assist in the preparation and posting of journal entries with proper documentation and approval.
Accounting:
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, identifying and resolving any discrepancies.
- Complete month-end close procedures, ensuring all necessary accounting tasks are completed on time.
Financial Reporting & Documentation:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Track and report on inventory levels, ensuring proper valuation and reconciliation with financial records.
- Support the Director of Finance by assisting in the analysis of financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, or opportunities for improvement.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and year-end financial reports for the Board of Directors.
Tax & Compliance:
- Ensure that financial records comply with all applicable tax regulations and accounting standards.
- Assist in the preparation of sales tax filings (GST/HST, US Sales Tax) and corporate tax returns as required.
- Support the Director of Finance with preparation for Review Engagement and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Oversee the accounts payable process, ensuring invoices are accurately processed, approved, and paid in a timely manner via Plooto.
- Manage customer invoicing, track outstanding receivables, and follow up on overdue accounts when applicable.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Current CPA student or recent CPA graduate is a plus
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related role.
- Familiarity with GAAP and basic accounting procedures.
- Advanced experience with QuickBooks Online is essential.
- Prior experience with bank reconciliations and managing accounts payable (A/P) is required.
- Prior experience with tax compliance and flings is an asset.
- High attention to detail and an ability to meet tight deadlines when requested is essential.
- Experience working in a fast-paced or growing company environment is a plus
