We are seeking an
Underwriter, Property for our Sompo International Canadian team in our
Toronto, Ontario office. This position will support our Canadian Domestic platform.
As a Property Underwriter, you will play a critical role in evaluating and analyzing property insurance risks for a wide range of clients in Canada. You will assess risk factors, determine coverage and pricing, and collaborate with other stakeholders to develop and implement underwriting strategies that align with the company's goals and guidelines.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite property insurance risks, including conducting risk assessments, analyzing data, reviewing applications, and determining coverage and pricing.
- Collaborate with brokers and clients to gather information, clarify requirements, and negotiate terms and conditions.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, brokers, and other stakeholders to drive new business opportunities and build a strong book of business.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as claims, risk engineering, and legal, to assess and manage risks, resolve issues, and optimize business outcomes.
- Provide excellent customer service by promptly responding to inquiries, addressing concerns, and resolving issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Participate in training, professional development, and knowledge-sharing activities to stay updated with industry best practices and enhance underwriting skills.
Qualifications Include
- Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience.
- 2-4 years of experience in property underwriting, preferably in the Canadian market.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to balance profitability and risk management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Knowledge of Canadian insurance regulations and market trends.
- Ability to travel as required
- French language is an asset
