PROFILE SUMMARY
Wesgroup is poised for substantial growth over the next several years and in preparation for this exciting and challenging phase, we are actively seeking a highly engaged, driven and experienced Development Accountant to join our team.
As a Development Accountant, you will assist in the day-to-day accounting of selected development properties. Key responsibilities will include preparing journal entries, preparing loan, PUD and other account reconciliations. You will also be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of forecasts for development properties.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Financial & Regulatory Reporting
- Review payables, POs/contracts, and change orders for accuracy and proper coding.
- Prepare month-end journal entries including accruals, cost allocations, asset transfer, and amortizations.
- Review job cost reports for accuracy and analyze and document month-over-month changes.
- Prepare project cashflow forecasts, updating monthly for changes in estimates and schedules.
- Assist with external audit and review engagements.
- Ensure adherence to Wesgroup’s accounting policies.
Financing
- Prepare internal and external monthly progress draws, including supporting documentation.
- Ensure accurate monthly reporting of project status, sales progress, costs incurred, and costs to complete.
Management Reporting
- Assemble reports for inclusion in monthly development reporting package.
- Monitor, review, and reconcile budgets, job cost reports, and loan draws.
- Compile trial balance financial reviews and variance analyses as required.
- Assist with preparation of insurance applications for new development projects and liaise with insurance brokers.
General
- Proactively seek process and procedural improvements and assist with documentation of such.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with asset management, leasing, development, construction, finance and other departments within Wesgroup.
- Provide ongoing support to internal stakeholders to achieve departmental objectives and organizational goals.
- Communicate efficiently and effectively, in a professional manner, with all Wesgroup employees and external business partners.
- Demonstrate and embody the Wesgroup core values and align decision making that focuses on the goals of the development portfolio.
- Actively participate in performance planning, taking ownership of career development, and engaging in review discussions, while demonstrating a proactive approach to skill enhancement and continuous improvement.
- Addition tasks and projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2-5 years of accounting experience in a similar role.
- Real estate industry experience (an asset).
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher education) in finance or accounting.
- Solid organizational and time management skills, with an ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks while working independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to draft clear and concise written communications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to develop creative and strategic solutions to issues.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including a proven ability to build relationships.
- High level of attention to detail and dedication to quality.
- Must have strong Microsoft Excel Skills.
- Ability to analyze financial statements and variances and provide recommendation/suggestions.
- Experience with Yardi Voyager 7S Job Cost (an asset).
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
- Annual Base Salary: The expected salary range for this role is $65,000 - $85,000 per annum. Actual offered salary will depend on individual experience, qualifications, geographic location, market conditions for the role, and internal equity.
