Mental Health Worker, Community Managed Alcohol Program (part-time)
PHS Community Services Society is looking for a Mental Health Worker to be based at our Community Managed Alcohol Program (CMAP).
The program is for individuals who struggle with severe alcohol use disorder and who sometimes drink non-beverage alcohol such as mouthwash or rubbing alcohol. CMAP works with members to substitute this with limited amounts of member-brewed wine and beer. As a member of the PHS’s Community Managed Alcohol Program, you will support participants within a Harm Reduction framework that is part of an enriched community, CMAP aims to build relationships and community connection through a drop-in style program that provides beverage alcohol as well as meaningful activities and skill development opportunities. Using both a strengths based and culturally informed approach you will help to support CMAP participants to increase stability and overall well-being.
Mental Health Workers are the backbone of PHS. They are embedded within PHS housing projects and programs to support residents and participants with immediate, practical day-to-day needs. These frontline staff are the first to respond to and assess emergency situations, particularly overdose response.
We’re looking for people who work hard, think on their feet, and operate seamlessly as part of a team.
This is a unionized, permanent, part-time position. Hours: Friday/Saturday/Sunday 9 am – 5 pm or Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday 9 am – 5 pm.

Responsibilities
Job duties include (but are not limited to):
- Provide harm reduction, support, and housing services for PHS residents and service users.
- Safety and security measures.
- General cleaning duties for the project or program.
- Crisis intervention/de-escalation.
- Responding to emergency situations, particularly overdose response.
Education And Experience
We are looking for people from all walks of life. Different types of experiences are valued at PHS, including volunteer and lived experience. The ideal candidate for this role has the following qualifications and skills:
- Current First Aid and CPR certification is required.
- 1 – 2 years’ experience working with marginalized populations an asset.
- Need a non-judgmental, compassionate, harm reduction approach.
- Class 5 Driver’s Licence preferred.
An equal combination of education, training and experience is acceptable.
Terms of employment
This is a unionized, permanent, part-time position. It’s CUPE 5536.
Salary: $31.56 p/hr.
Hours: There are two options:
- Friday/Saturday/Sunday 9 am – 5 pm, or,
- Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday 9 am – 5 pm.
