The First Cook position plays a crucial role in the culinary operations of the café, involving the preparation of a diverse range of culinary delights, ensuring a positive customer experience, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
In this role, you will:
- Bake various baked goods and pastries and prepare coffee during the early morning hours.
- Cook breakfast items, including breakfast sandwiches, as per customer orders.
- Prepare pre-made grab-and-go items such as salads, desserts, fruit cups, wraps, sandwiches, and bowls while ensuring items are properly labeled, including ingredients and shelf-life.
- Craft hot meals for daily specials from Monday to Friday.
- Assist customers with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Provide support for catering events when needed.
- Ensure proper receiving, storing, and organizing of food products, while adhering to health and safety practices, including FIFO (First In, First Out).
- Maintain health and safety practices throughout the entire food preparation cycle, from receiving to storing, preparing, cooking, and serving.
- Take ownership of the café's fridge, freezer, prep, and cooking areas.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the fridge, freezer, storing areas, preparation counters, and equipment through regular cleaning and sanitizing.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the floors and assist in cleaning the café front during operation and service hours to enhance the overall customer experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
You bring:
- A culinary college degree or equivalent work experience
- A mandatory requirement of a Food Handler's Certificate
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar scale kitchen environment
- Customer service skills is an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues, chefs, and provide exceptional customer service
- Team player, who can work independently with minimal to no supervision
- The ability to work early in the morning
