The Data Science Associate Internship role is an opportunity to be a member of an interdisciplinary scrum team responsible for designing and implementing automation-based solutions for all phases of the life cycle for R packages, Python libraries and other data science products.
Your scrum team will develop a suite of multifaceted, reusable and scalable CI/CD pipelines, both internal and open sourced, to ensure that code quality, security, and compliance are guaranteed from project inception through release. You will also play a critical role in designing and building LLM tools, frameworks, and methodologies to improve data science programming efficiency.
The Opportunity
- Develop scalable software solutions, data pipelines and infrastructures to facilitate integration, deployment and release of R/Python and other data science languages, including AI applications
- Learn and understand software development gaps our data scientists face, and propose and deliver solutions, automations and innovations to amplify their impact
- Continually search for opportunities to automate workflows and streamline processes
- Work with business stakeholders through highly technical software engineers to identify functional needs
Who You Are:
- Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at a Master level
- Master Degree intern majoring in Computer Science, Bioinformatics and related computational field (preferred in the Master of Science in Applied Computing MScAC at University of Toronto.)
- Must be able to attend the internship in a hybrid model, full-time, and for a minimum duration of 8 months
- Essential to have experience with software development workflows, including versioning, code collaboration with Git, and CI/CD tools
- Expert knowledge in writing R/Python code and leading automation of development processes, with tools for writing, building, linting, and deploying R/Python packages and libraries
- Strong understanding of ML concepts, product lifecycle, hands-on experience with automation infrastructure for AI/ML or cloud-based applications, and familiarity with ML toolkits, performance metrics, validation techniques, and statistical analysis
Preferred:
- Enthusiastic about learning and curious about drug development in the biotech industry
- Passionate about staying updated with advancements in AI models and their applications; familiarity with web development principles and frameworks is strongly preferred.
- Experience in student organizations and/or study abroad is a plus
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills; aligns with our culture of Integrity, Courage, and Passion

- Duration (8 months), work term (Full time) and will begin in (May, 2025)
- Location: Based in Mississauga, Ontario
- Our team follows a hybrid work structure (minimum 3 days in the office).
