The company is seeking a dedicated and professional Lumber Estimator to join their dynamic
team.
Roles and responsibilities:
The Estimator will be responsible for accurately estimating the quantity and cost of materials
required for construction projects, ensuring optimal resource utilization and cost-effectiveness.
The Lumber Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and
contractors to gather necessary information and develop comprehensive estimates.
This role requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in construction materials, and the ability to
interpret blueprints and specifications. You must be comfortable performing takeoffs without
assistance from programs.
Analyze construction blueprints, specifications, and other project documentation to
understand material requirements.
Collaborate with project stakeholders to clarify project scope, specifications, and
materials preferences.
Utilize estimating tools to calculate material quantities and costs accurately.
Maintain a comprehensive database of material and industry trends to inform estimating
processes.
Present estimates to project teams, clients, and stakeholders, addressing any inquiries
or concerns.
Monitor project progress and adjust estimates as necessary based on changes in scope,
design, or materials.
Stay updated on industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to lumber
materials estimation.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a lumber estimator or a similar role in the building materials
industry.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction blueprints, drawings, and
specifications, including engineered floor and truss layouts
Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with the ability to perform complex
calculations.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in estimating material quantities and costs.
Familiarity with lumber materials, their properties, uses, and cost factors.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with
diverse teams.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality
standards.
Experience with wood design is preferred but any design experience in low rise
construction is an asset.
A knowledge and understanding of wood framing techniques
Knowledge and familiarity with the Ontario Building Code (OBC).Familiarity with the
Ontario Fire Code (OFC) would be a plus for this position
Knowledge of procurement processes and supply chain management is a plus
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $41,503.96-$88,024.48 per year
