Job Description:
NVIT anticipates a requirement for a Recruitment and Events Officer (REO) at the Burnaby campus and invites applications from qualified candidates. This will be a full-time, ongoing support staff position commencing as soon as a suitable candidate is available.
Job Summary:
The Recruitment & Events Officer (REO) is a key member of the Enrolment Services Team, focusing on leading recruitment activities and supporting the Events Planner. This position is primarily responsible for driving student recruitment efforts, including representing NVIT at career fairs and other promotional events throughout the province. The REO will coordinate and manage all recruitment activities at the NVIT Burnaby campus and track and report on recruitment priorities, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
In addition, the REO will support the Events Planner in organizing campus events, contributing to event logistics, and assisting with event coordination. The role will involve participation in recruitment and event initiatives that require occasional travel, evening, and weekend work during peak times. This position will work closely with the Enrolment Services team to ensure a seamless experience for prospective students while fostering relationships with key Indigenous communities and stakeholders. Guided by principles of integrity, shared responsibility, consistency, and collaboration, the REO will play a critical role in enhancing NVIT’s presence in the community while supporting learners' aspirations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Increase Awareness: Drive efforts to increase awareness of NVIT’s educational opportunities across the province, emphasizing on-campus and off-campus programs through strategic recruitment activities and community engagement.
- Recruitment Activities: Provide support to the Associate Registrar, Burnaby Campus to coordinate the recruitment activities across all NVIT campuses, ensuring alignment with recruitment goals and providing targeted outreach to potential students.
- Represent NVIT at key recruitment events, including career fairs, high schools, trade shows, and other promotional events within Indigenous communities and broader educational settings.
- Alumni Engagement: Engage with alumni to incorporate their experiences to inspire prospective students and strengthen the NVIT community.
- Build Relationships with Community Partners: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and educational institutions (K-12 and post-secondary) to facilitate student recruitment and support. Host recruitment events and activities in collaboration with these partners both on-campus and off-campus.
- Internal & External Communications: Effectively communicate details of upcoming recruitment events, campus activities, and initiatives to both the internal NVIT community and external stakeholders.
- Support NVIT Events: Assist in the planning and hosting of recruitment-focused and NVIT events on the Burnaby campus, such as Graduation, career fairs, campus tours, and student orientation sessions. Collaboration with the Burnaby Campus Student Society would occur at peak times during the year (e.g. Christmas Party, AGM, and other initiatives).
- Provide coverage for the Recruitment, Admissions, and Registration Officer (RARO) and other Enrolment Services Staff during periods of absence or peak workload, ensuring continuity of services.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Relevant Post-Secondary Diploma with a minimum of one year of experience in the BC public post-secondary system, preferably in recruitment, admissions, and/or registration environments.
- Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Indigenous Knowledge and Experience:
- Lived experience and/or a deep understanding of the lived experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
- Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages, cultures, and traditions.
- Understanding of Canada’s colonial history and its devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples, as well as Indigenous ways of being and knowing.
- Practice from a holistic, culturally safe, and trauma-informed perspective.
Event Planning and Execution:
- Ability to plan and execute events with strong attention to detail, ensuring they meet recruitment and community engagement goals.
Technical Skills:
- Extensive experience with computer systems, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook), Colleague, Self-Service, and Education Planner BC.
Travel and Flexibility:
- Valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel frequently, including to rural and remote areas.
- Energy and perseverance to support extensive travel requirements.
Personal Attributes:
- Self-motivated, independent problem solver with the ability to take initiative.
- Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships, achieving outcomes in the best interest of prospective and current students and NVIT.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication and presentation skills.
Other:
- Consent to a criminal record check through the Ministry of Justice Public Safety.
