Etobicoke Vision Centre is a rapidly growing eye clinic inside Costco looking to add a part-time, detail-oriented, customer-focused Optometric Technician and Receptionist to our team. The ideal candidate will assist in providing exceptional patient care and support the daily operations of our optometry practice.
The hours required for the position are Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00am to 6:00pm, Thursdays 10:00am to 7:00pm and alternate Sundays from 10:00am to 3:00pm (25-30 hours/week). The position can increase to full-time hours as the clinic grows.
Etobicoke Vision Centre is paperless (OD Office Pro), non-dispensing, and is located inside Costco NW Toronto. We offer eye examination services only, and therefore we are not involved with the optical sales of glasses, contact lenses, eye drops or nutraceuticals. Duties:
- Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
- Assist with patient check-in, scheduling appointments, taking payment, billing private insurance, OHIP eligibility determination and verification.
- Perform preliminary testing on patients such as auto-refraction/keratometry/NCT/pachymetry, lensometry, Optos and OCT imaging, visual field testing, and case history.
- Support the optometrist during eye exams and procedures
- Answer the phone and patient inquiries, respond to emails, book appointments
- Taking payment, direct billing insurance plans.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the reception area and exam rooms
Qualifications:
- Experience in an optometry/ophthalmology or health care setting is preferred, but not required. Quick ability to learn is necessary for the role if there is no prior experience in the industry.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to optometry is helpful
- Familiarity with electronic medical records systems such as OD Office Pro, or being a quick learner AND computer savvy is necessary
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on patient care
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Previous experience in customer service is necessary
Pay:
- $20.00-$25.00/hour depending on work experience and education
- $25.00-$30.00/hour if one has more than 2 years of experience in optometry or ophthalmology AND using electronic medical records and similar equipment to our clinic. (As in someone who is already efficient in the role in a different practice, and can hit the ground running with minimal training needed).
