Summary of Duties
The Division of Medical Oncology & Hematology and the Department of Radiation Oncology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre seeks a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) to join its well-established Medical and Radiation Oncology inpatient program, to collaborate in the provision of clinical care, and to participate in quality improvement and patient safety processes
The PA staff is fully integrated into all components of departmental operations. The PA will function under a full set of medical directives, working in collaboration with a team of hospitalists, residents, and traineesThe successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of academic activities relating to the care of acutely ill patients with cancer.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Participate in interprofessional morning rounds.
- Obtain health history as appropriate and conduct comprehensive physical assessments and interpret findings.
- Utilize primary and secondary assessment results to determine if further clinical investigation is required.
- Order and complete preliminary interpretation of necessary diagnostic tests.
- Collaborate with the interprofessional team (nursing, pharmacy, social work, occupational/physiotherapy, residents and attendings).
- Formulate a treatment and management plan based on assessment and investigation results, availability of services and special needs of patient.
Qualifications/Skills
- Certified or eligible to be certified through the Physician Assistant’s Certification Council (PACC)
- 2022 Graduate of the University of Toronto Consortium of Physician Assistant Education Program or McMaster University Physician Assistant Education Program
- Membership with the Canadian Association of the Physician Assistants
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in an interprofessional healthcare environment
